PPI – Portuguese Platform for Integrity – Working Session

The PPI - Portuguese Platform for Integrity held the first working session for the last quarter of 2023 on Wednesday, July 12.

PPI - Portuguese Platform for Integrity is an initiative of United Nations Global Compact Network Portugal and APEE - Portuguese Association for Business Ethics. It was first launched in 2019, following the renewal of the United Nations Global Compact anti-corruption campaign, as call from the private sector to governments, in order to promote anti-corruption measures and implement policies that establish good governance systems.

This meeting was held to resume Platform's activities during the year 2023, and included the welcome of new Signatories, the review of the PPI 2.0 Governance Model, and an introduction to the working groups for the upcoming months’ work plan.

The session was kicked off by Mário Parra da Silva, Chair of the Board of UN Global Compact Network Portugal and President of the Board of the Portuguese Association for Business Ethics, who began by framing the importance of ethics and integrity for organizations and the role of the PPI - Portuguese Platform for Integrity as a promoter of these values.

"Corruption is another phenomenon that sustainability has recognized as a very serious problem, the amount of money that is lost every year through corruption is gigantic, and it is above all a great frustration (...) There are other initiatives in Portugal, such as Transparency International, and associations that deal with ethics, so the movement is broad, we are not alone ... but in this Platform we do something in which we are pioneers: we bring companies together through a statement where they publicly declare that they will not agree with corruption."
